- The Sunshine
It never rains in Southern California. If you love Sunshine, warm weather year round, if you want forgetting the snow, the winter clothes, the cold days…this is definitely the place for you. Personally, I’ve always thought the weather could really change your life, and when I’d experienced it (namely winter in SoCal) I had the confirmation. The warm and sunny weather is inextricably linked with the Cali lifestyle that is characterized by outdoors activities almost everywhere and year round. It will make you happy, it will make you smile. It will make you free to do everything you want surrounded by the marvelous beauty of SoCal. But, there is something more….you would be amazed admiring the snowy mountains comfortably lied by the pool in Palm Springs….yes, it seems amazing and unreal but it’s true. If you want to see (or missing) the snow….you would find it in SoCal, and you would also able to skying in SoCal, at the fabulous Big Bear, just a couple of hours from LA. So, no excuses, all the best of the sunny weather in SoCal.
2. The legendary history, everywhere
No matter if you are a movies lover or a rock lover, in any case you are in the right place! Past or nowadays Legends and Celebs lived or live here, or at least spent here part of their famous life. It’s almost impossible walking around SoCal without embracing places that are part of the History, places that have been appeared in TV shows, movies, music videos, advertising and fashion shooting, gossip and glamour magazines and website…it would be almost impossible list all of them, starting from the West Coast Golden Age, in the 20’s. Think about you favorite legend/star/celeb and just try to find how he/she is linked with SoCal. It is not only Hollywood (of course here is sufficient mentioning the Chateau Marmont and the Roosevelt Hotel to enter into the Legend). The legend is everywhere in SoCal, just think about the Coronado Hotel in San Diego, that has been featured in several movies, including “Someone like it Hot” (1959, starring Marylin Monroe, Jack Lemon, Tony Curtis) and was one of the favorite places of Hollywood Stars in the Golden Age and still nowadays is the place where Celebs love staying when they are in San Diego. If you like the Desert and you want to retrial Legends staying, you should go to Palm Springs, and have a great VIP houses tour…in PS, for example, you could visit the Elvis Presley Honey Moon house. These are just some examples….just free your imagination and retrace your favorite movie or rock legend’s days in SoCal.
3. The lifestyle
Freedom, outdoors, plenty of sunshine, glamour parties, fashion trendsetters, road trip, hipster, surfing, desert, skating, beach volley, hiking…all these aspects are present in the Cali lifestyle. Probably the first thing that comes to your mind when you think to LA is the star-spotting and glamour LA, but this is just a part. The Cali lifestyle is a mix of heterogeneous elements and experiences that make this lifestyle so iconic. California is one of the USA’s most famous states, and it has a history of being a lifestyle pioneer. It is impossible try to count the songs, the TV shows, the movies, the poems, the books dedicated to the Golden State, and its lifestyle. So many aspects, so many experiences are part of its heritage that it is even hard define and summarize the Cali lifestyle. But one thing is sure, once you get there, you immediately understand it. It’s all over the Southern California, is a feeling that will remain with you forever….and probably will make you desire to live there.
4. Surfin USA…is synonym of California
Surfing in California is a way of life for many and a spectator sport for others and for tourist. The SoCal is plenty of fabulous spots for surfing. Surfing has a long history and SoCal helped the sport get noticed through media, movies, songs, TV shows, just think of The Beach Boys’s songs. The surf culture began at the beginning of 1900, but exploded in the 50’s-60’s. This sport is so deeply linked with the Golden State that several museums along the Cali Coast are dedicated to surfing. Surfing competition were established in Cali in the 20’s and a booming surf culture was created when automobile became readable accessible, making surfer able to travel up and down the SoCal Coast chasing the biggest and best waves. 5. The culture, UCLA is one of the best public national Institutions
The University of California, Los Angeles, is one of the best public national Institutions. Founded in 1919, located in the amazing LA hills, between Bel Air, Brentwood, Beverly Hills and Westwood. The campus is marvelous, and it is divided in North and South. Walking from side to side takes more than half an hour and it definitely worths the walk. One of the first original building, the Royce Hall, is inspired by the Basilica of Sant’ Ambrogio in Milan. Thanks to the campus’s proximity to Hollywood and its impotent and marvelous style, UCLA has attracted filmmakers for decades, and several movies and TV show has been filmed entirely or at least partially here. It is impressive knowing how many UCLA professors and alumni have won a prestigious awards in their career…just some numbers: 150 Academy Awards, 278 Emmy Awards, 50 Grammy Awards, 13 Nobel laureates, 3 Pulitzer Prize, impressive, isn’t? You would love to buy a gift or a souvenir at the Campus’s store…to feel the sensation of being a bruin at least for a moment.
6. The marvelous natural beauty
Even if the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about SoCal is LA and its glamour and glittery lifestyle, in SoCal you will remain amazed by its natural beauty and by the presence of different landscapes passing from the Ocean to the Desert. Some spots that will leave you breathless: The Point Duma, Malibu, a handsome rock that makes dramatic statement in Malibu, directly on the Ocean; Zabrienskie Point, Death Valley, describing the Death Valley is impossible, nothing is comparable, and you won’t associate this landscape to Cali until you will visit it; Joshua Tree National Park, a SoCal sign (the tree on the famous U2 album); the Orang County, OC, Laguna Beach hides some of the most beautiful beaches of SoCal; Salton Sea, an apocalyptic and unreal landscape, sign of a glorious past and uncertain future; La Jolla, a seaside neighborhood within the San Diego area, that offers marvelous views of the coast, surrounded on three sides by Ocean bluffs and beaches, Griffith Park, the largest US park, located over the City of Angels, at the easter end of the Santa Monica Mountains, that offers breath taking views of the city and several attractions, Palm Springs and the surrounding area, that is one of the biggest natural world’s oasis…the list could be really long, but these places just came to my mind in order to describe the amazing variety of landscapes and natural beauties you could find in SoCal.
7. Is the place for road trips
California is probably the best USA’s State for road trips, thanks to the richness of its landscapes, the great weather almost year round, the charming of the Hollywood system and the Golden Age, and its amazing coastal roads that would leave you breathless. It is also the best way to really discover the beauty of this State. California is a the road trip American Icon, thanks also to the presence of the famous and legendary route 66 that ends in Santa Monica. No matter if you would travel by car, by motorbike (and this is really cool!), following a planned trip or going on an adventures, you won’t be disappointed. The 101, known as the Highway, 1 is the dream route, that will offer you amazing views of the Cali Coast, showing all the different coastal landscapes, going through the famous Big Sur. Nowhere on Cali captures the SoCal vibe and heritage more than the 101. It runs for 790 miles, from San Diego to the border with Oregon, directly along the Pacific Ocean. Another iconic Cali trip that you won’t missing is the route from LA to Las Vegas, passing through the Desert of Cali…an amazing experience. You could spend days and days…weeks on the roads of Cali…and after that, probably you would think to move in the Golden State…maybe riding an Harley Davidson.
