I used to say having fun @ Venice (also because it’s the title of the Neo Pop artwork), but what I really mean is spending time at the beach rollerblading, and not only (btw, I learned how to rollerblade in SoCal years and years ago, and it’s something that I literally love, it’s one of my favorite activities, probably the favorite one ever).
When I’m in LA I always stay close to the beach, normally in Marina del Rey or in Venice, sometimes in Santa Monica. There are so many places in town that I love, and where I love to go and spending time, but I think I’ll always feel a strong connection with the beach side, because my first experiences and long periods in LA were in Marina del Rey.
What I really love is waking up early in the morning, having breakfast and going to the beach, bringing my Rollerblade and my iPhone with my favorite playlists. Generally, I start rollerblading from Venice and I go along the bike path ’til Rogers State Beach, where I spend time listening to the Ocean and watching surfers waiting for the perfect wave. It’s something that I love, everyday like the first one. I will never be done, never. I prefer doing this during the week, because there are less people, and because it’s such a great way to start the working day. When I’m in town for work, this really regenerates me and gives me so much energy to face the long working day, even if is a boring or bad one.
During the weekend or when I’m in town for vacation, basically I start the day in the same way, early in the morning but more relaxed, without looking at the clock. When I have more time I like to stop in Santa Monica on my way back, and spending time listening to my favorite songs while I’m going on the swings on the beach, by the Pier, fascinated by the Ocean in front of me. It’s something that makes me smile, and makes me feel carefree…literally, my mind seems more empty. It’s a sensation that I feel just there, because it’s the merging of all the different things, the endorphins coming from the long skating, the view of all my favorite elements together (the Ocean, the Pier, the palm trees surrounded by the sand) the Sun – the almost always perfect weather – my favorite playlists…the swings. Then, before going home, I love having a refreshing smoothie by the beach. I know, it’s so simple, but it’s a kinda of perfect day for me.
